Almost 50 years ago, Socrates Nicholson bought a cattle ranch in Sonoma. He stuck to cattle after a neighbor told him winemaking was a “fad.” Thirteen years ago, his daughter Ramona planted grapevines so she could stay home with her young children and create a family business, and Nicholson Ranch was born. Ramona and her husband, Deepak Gulrajani, make carefully handcrafted wines, utilizing the hills in a gravity-flow system where grapes are handled as little as possible to preserve and create complex flavors that showcase the terrior of the site.
