When London penned his epic, Louis Kunde had been working Kunde Family Estate for nearly a decade. Today, the family’s fourth and fifth generations make one hundred percent estate wine—all of it grown and bottled on-site—using sustainable winegrowing methods. The concept runs through the operation cover crops prevent erosion, special habitats encourage beneficial bugs and natural predators, and eco-programs instill the ideal in children and visitors. “We want them to see how sustainable practices result in a product with quality and integrity,” says Jeff Kunde, who leads several eco-hikes around the vineyard.
