RAVENSWOOD WINERY: 2ND ANNUAL TATTOO "COMING OUT" PARTY Saturday, July 17 11:00 am - 4:00 pm Ravenswood Winery Who: Ravenswood Winery, one of California’s leading producers of old-vine Zinfandel and a host of other wines, is holding a second annual reunion of consumers who have had the bold, stylized and now famous Ravenswood logo tattooed somewhere on their bodies!
What: A celebration and first-ever “coming out” party for all bearers of the Ravenswood “circular ravens” tattoo! Since its creation more than 30 years ago, the logo (pictured above), designed by celebrated Berkeley artist, David Lance Goines, has become an iconic symbol of the winery and wines. A surprising number of Ravenswood aficionados, and lovers of the highly naturalistic image alike, have demonstrated their enthusiasm in the extreme, by permanently tattooing the logo on their bodies! Activities will include: mingling and comparing of tattoos; a contest with prizes for the winner of the “best tattoo of the day” award; on site air brushing of temporary tattoos for non –“inked” participants who want to share in the fun; appetizers, noshing and a special tasting flight of select Ravenswood Single Vineyard Designate Zinfandels (note: every attendee with real “ink” gets to taste free for life). Activities are open to all adults over the age of 21.
Where: Ravenswood Winery, 18701 Gehricke Rd, Sonoma, CA 95476 Price: $15 (tasting fee waived for all bearers of permanent Ravenswood tattoos) Phone: 707.933.2336
Why: In his more than 30 years as the Ravenswood Founding Winemaker, Joel Peterson has seen a thing or two. Along the way he’s met an amazing number of folks who bear the Ravenswood logo somewhere on their bodies. Some wear it as an expression of their brand loyalty, others don it as a cool, naturalistic image. Their stories range from hilarious to poignant. Explains Peterson, “We felt it was time to bring together these interesting characters, to honor their freewheeling spirit and style, and to celebrate their tattoo stories at what we hope will become an annual reunion.”
